چکیده

The exact biochemical mechanism by which glucose is absorbed by the intestine against a concentration gradient is yet to be established. In 1933, Wilbrandt and Laszt (1) proposed the phosphorylation-dephosphorylation hypothesis for sugar absorption by the small intestine. In the same year Lundsgaard (2) suggested the same hypothesis for glucose reabsorption by the kidney tubules. Much of the evidence on which this hypothesis was originally based has since proved inadequate. On the other hand, conclusive evidence against the hypothesis is lacking. The present study was designed to test the hypothesis of the phosphorylation of glucose during the transport process. Ashmore et al. (3) employed a method for calculating the quantity of glucose which was phosphorylated to glucose B-phosphate by liver slices and subsequently hydrolyzed to glucose and inorganic phosphate. In a similar manner an attempt has been made in the present study to calculate the quantity of glucose arising from glucose 6-phosphate during the course of intestinal absorption of glucose by sacs of hamster intestine. The results obtained by such experiments indicate that only a small fraction of gluco,,e transported passes through glucose 6-phosphate as an intermediate.

Absorption of sugars in vitro by the intestine of the golden hamster.

As early aa 1900, Hedon (1) demonstrated that isotonic solutions of glucose and galactose were absorbed more rapidly than similar solutions of arabinose, an observation suggesting selective absorption of certain hexoses. This observation has been amply confirmed and at least two general groups of sugars delineated, one group of rapidly absorbed sugars (glucose and galactose) and another more sl...

اثرات متقابل کادمیوم و pH محیط بر جذب روده‌ای اسیدهای چرب در رت

Background: The intestinal absorption of fatty acids may take place through simple diffusion as well as through protein carrier mediated transport, although the relative importance of each pathway is dependent on the ambient condition of entrocytes. Cad-mium ion influences the absorption of fatty acids in entrocytes. However, the effect of cadmium ion on the absorption of fatty acids in differe...

Histomorphometric changes of small intestine in pregnant rat

Food intake of rats increases during pregnancy. This requires changes in the structure of the small intestine to absorb additional food. The aim of the present study was to investigate the morphological changes in the layers of small intestine in rats during pregnancy. Duodenum, jejunum and ileum of 18 pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats (day 7, 14 and 21 of pregnancy) were collected. Villous height a...

مکانیسم مولکولی دیس‌لیپیدمی متابولیک در وضعیتهای مقاومت به انسولین

Insulin resistant states are emerging rapidly and lots of efforts have gone into understanding their pathogenesis and major metabolic consequences. Hypertriglyceridemia, a major complication of this metabolic syndrome, seems to be caused by overproduction of lipoproteins (LPs) containing apo B that are rich in triglycerides. Some in vitro and in vivo models have been introduced so as to under...
